NUR 105 - Medication Simulation 1 Cr.
This course will provide the student with the opportunity to accurately calculate medication dosage utilizing the label factor method. Medications in simulated clinical situations will be incorporated giving the student experience with the label factor method in a practical setting.

Pre-Requisites: Successful completion of all College Placement Tests. Concurrent requirement that may have prior completion: NUR 111.

NUR 111 - Nursing I 8 Cr.
Maslow’s Theory of Hierarchy of Needs and Erickson’s Developmental Theory are presented as a basis of understanding the conditions in which individuals develop as bio psycho social-cultural beings to the fullest degree. The Nursing Process, a problem solving approach, with a focus on assessment is utilized at a beginning level, to identify and meet needs necessary to maintain an optimal level of health. Psychomotor skills are developed, practiced, and evaluated through the use of the College and clinical laboratory. Scientific principles, Nursing Process, and psychomotor skills are correlated throughout the course with subsequent application in the clinical laboratory.

NUR 112 - Nursing II 8 Cr.
NUR 112, Nursing II, focuses on short term interruptions that affect an individual’s ability to meet their needs, as described by Maslow, throughout various developmental stages. The Nursing Process, with emphasis on planning and implementation, will be utilized in assisting the individual to achieve an optimal level of health. Concentration will be on the individual who is experiencing a short term interruption due to surgery or pregnancy. Psychomotor skills will be developed and perfected through the use of the college and clinical laboratory. Theoretical principles and nursing techniques will be correlated throughout the course with subsequent application and evaluation in the clinical laboratory. Student participation in a variety of acute and community health settings provides an overview of the health care delivery system.
Restricted to Nursing students. (Offered spring semester.)
Pre-Requisites: BIO 213E/L, NUR 111, NUR 105 and PSY 110. Concurrent requirement that may have prior completion: PHA 250, BIO 214E/L and PSY 210. NUR 113 - Practical Nursing III 6 Cr.
Practical Nursing III is a study of needs and related nursing care of individuals in various age groups experiencing interruptions in their ability to meet needs for oxygen, rest, activity, safety and security. Included is a component specific to the special needs of children. The nursing process and critical thinking skills are utilized to develop a framework of care. Experience in clinical and college laboratory provide an opportunity for the application of knowledge and psychomotor skills.
Restricted to Practical Nursing Credit Hour students. (Usually offered Summer Session 1.)
Pre-Requisites: NUR 112, BIO 214, PSY 210, and PHA 250. Concurrent requirement that may have prior completion: Current Basic Life Support Certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, required. Satisfactory physical examination with designated immunizations. Co-Requisites: NUR113C, NUR113L

Included is a component specific to higher level needs. The nursing process and critical thinking skills are utilized to develop a framework of care. Experiences in clinical provide an opportunity for the application of knowledge and psychomotor skills.

NUR 130 - Nursing Clinical Practicum 2 Cr.
An intensive one week elective that provides reality-oriented nursing practice based upon knowledge and skills accrued by nursing students during previous semesters. This elective course is intended to permit the nursing students the curricular freedom to identify their own unique and personal learning needs and provide experiences to meet these needs under the guidance of a clinical nursing instructor in an acute care hospital setting. This course offers the student the unique exposure to a full day’s shift of clinical experience for a week’s time; thereby allowing for continuity and intensity of clinical learning not provided in other nursing clinical laboratory courses.
Restricted to Nursing students. (Offered Summer session.)

The student’s success in college is increased by assisting the student in obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary to reach his/her educational objectives. The following topics will be addressed as they relate to student success within the Nursing curriculum: Orientation to College and the Nursing Curriculum; Time Management; Study Skills; Library/Research Skills for the Nursing Major; Communication/Verbal and Non-Verbal in the Nursing Major; Careers in Nursing; and Stress Management.

NUR 211 - Nursing III 10 Cr.
Nursing III is a study of needs and related nursing care in various age groups when common recurring interruptions occur in ability to meet need for oxygen, fluid and electrolyte balance, rest and activity (orthopedic), and safety and security (neurological). Included is a component specific to the special needs of children. The Nursing Process, with emphasis on analysis and goal setting, is utilized. Student participation in a variety of acute and community health settings provides an overview of the health care delivery system. College laboratory provides an opportunity for practice of nursing skills. A variety of clinical experiences provides for correlation of theory and practice.
Restricted to Nursing students (Offered Fall semesters.)

NUR 212 - Nursing IV 10 Cr.
Nursing IV is a continuation of Nursing III. Emphasis is placed on commonalities of needs and nursing care which arise in various age groups when common recurring interruptions occur in needs related to protective mechanisms, (cancer), sexuality, nutrition, elimination, and higher level needs. Long term goals and the evaluation step of Nursing Process are emphasized. Medical-surgical, psychiatric, and oncological nursing experiences are provided in local agencies. Student participation in a variety of acute and community health settings provides an overview of the health care delivery system. A leadership/delegation component provides an opportunity for integration of prior learning, mid-management, and organization of priority needs in multi-patient assignment.
Restricted to Nursing students, (Offered Spring semester.)
Pre-Requisites: BIO 221E, BIO 221L, ENG 101, NUR 211, and PHA 250. Concurrent requirement that may have prior completion: ENG 102, NUR 213 and SOC 101 or ANT 102. NUR 213 - Nursing Perspectives 2 Cr.
The structure and nature of the nursing profession as it relates to today’s society is presented, including: historical perspectives, ethical and legal responsibilities, employment preparation, career opportunities, educational pathways and legislation affecting nursing practice. The content of the pharmacology section of this course is designed to expose the student to an overall view of drugs used for treatment of clinical disorders of patients from all age groups. The course is designed to augment pharmacology knowledge acquired in nursing theory courses and to assist the student in safe clinical practice regarding medication issues. Pertinent information about specific drugs or drug classifications will be discussed, including dosage, interactions, and nursing implications. The responsibility of the nurse in the application of drug therapy will be stressed.

NUR 232 - Intra-Operative Nursing Practicum 2 Cr.
An intensive one week elective that provides reality-oriented nursing practice in the intra-operative phase of peri-operative nursing based upon knowledge and skills accrued by nursing students during previous semesters. This elective course is intended to familiarize the nursing students with the multiple roles of the RN in the operating room, provide experiences in the operating room utilizing acquired skills under the guidance of a clinical nursing instructor and preceptor in the intra-operative hospital setting. This course offers the student the unique exposure to a full day’s shift of clinical surgical experience for a week’s time; thereby allowing for continuity and intensity of clinical learning not provided in other nursing clinical laboratory courses.
Restricted to Nursing students who have successfully completed NUR 211. (Usually offered Interim session, in January.)

HPE 115 - Country/Folk Dance 1 Cr.
This course is designed to practice and learn the dances of countries concentrating on a variety of folk, square and line dances with some application to the principles of movement of Rudolf Laban. Additionally, elements of creative movement and dance will be explored. Topics covered include historical, geographical and cultural influences upon folk and square dance, terminology, mechanics of various individual and group steps, rhythm patterns, movement concepts and teaching strategies. Additional attention is paid to the proper instruction of skill progression, partner and small group episodes, common missteps and their corrections and differentiated instruction.

Emphasis will be on learning proper technique for performance of select tumbling skills. Individual skills will be taught in progression of difficulty so that students are able to combine them into performance routines in the men’s and women’s floor events. HPE 135 - Adventure Education 1 Cr.
This course is designed to encourage participants to develop greater self-confidence and at the same acquire a sense of trust and commitment to their classmates. Students are given the opportunity to test themselves against physical and emotional limits through exploration of a series of group and personal challenges to attain higher levels of performance. The curriculum is connected to participant’s ability to appreciate the application of experiences to the entire Physical Education curriculum. Experiences include: initiatives, trust activities, team building experiences, problem solving and cooperative games. Additional attention is paid to the proper instruction of skill progression in spotting techniques, partner and small group episodes, common misunderstandings and their corrections, and differentiated instruction.
