MUS 271 - Research in Music

3 Cr.
Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

This course introduces the music major or highly interested lay person to the concepts of research and writing in music, music education, and/or music therapy, as a professional in the field. Students will select a particular topic of interest and complete a semester-long investigation of the topic. Students will produce three major documents by completion: a research bibliography, a career-oriented research paper, and a topical research-based paper. The link between research and the professional music career will be stressed as knowledge informs practice.
Pre-Requisites: ENG 101
Concurrent Requirement: Pre-requisites that may be met concurrently: MUS 117 or MUS 118
