The changes in office technology have resulted in new and exciting opportunities within the office-support profession. Administrative assistants have a mastery of office and computer skills, an ability to assume responsibility, effective communication skills as well as an understanding of accounting and business fundamentals.
Administrative Assistant graduates easily obtain employment in career-related fields. They enter the job market with confidence and enthusiasm, knowing that their education has prepared them to undertake positions as office professionals.
The NCCC Approach
The Administrative Assistant program at NCCC allows a student the opportunity to obtain knowledge in the general office or medical office areas through a selection of electives that allows for flexible program content.
Office administration courses address the needs of the student who aspires to becoming a professional in any office environment. Courses such as Administrative Office Procedures, Accounting Principles I and Business Organization and Management prepare the graduate for an office environment that requires more administrative responsibilities.
Through courses such as Medical Terminology, Human Biology, Medical Billing, Medical Coding and Medical Office Procedures, graduates are prepared for employment in a physician’s office, hospital, clinic, medical laboratory, public health facility or medical department of a corporation.
Students admitted in September and January.
Because of the sequencing of courses, it may take more than four semesters of full-time study if a student begins this program in a spring semester.

- Become employable in entry-level positions
- To assist students in meeting at least four or five of the 10 SUNY General Education requirements
Student Learning Outcomes
- Keyboard a minimum of 40 net words per minute
- Compose written communication skills to communicate appropriately in the business office
- Apply proofreading and listening skills for editing and transcribing business correspondence on the personal computer
- Develop in-depth software application skills
- Develop job readiness skills that include preparing a resume and cover letter, completing an application and communicating effectively in a job interview
- Apply classroom skills in a work related setting
- Produce formatted business documents using the personal computer and desktop items
- Develop effective oral communication skills to communicate appropriately in the business office
