ENG 101 - Writing I

3 Cr.
Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

This course prepares students to participate in the world through academic writing. By understanding writing as a process of invention, discovery, reflection, and revision, students will learn to think critically and engage in intellectual expression with both rigor and civility. The first part of a two-semester sequence, this course will introduce students to the scholarly practices of research and documentation, which include the ethical evaluation and use of secondary sources. While individual sections of the course may explore a range of diverse issues and texts, all sections will study the rhetorical principles necessary for students to meet the writing demands of their personal, professional, and civic lives.

If ENG 088 and ENG 101 are taken concurrently as an ALP course, a combination of essay assignments for both ENG 088 and ENG 101 will be completed. If ENG 088 and ENG 101 are taken concurrently, the student must pass both courses. Failure to pass either course will result in the failure of both.
Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters
