LIT 231 - African American Literature

Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

This course consists of the reading, discussion, and written analysis of the rich diversity of African-American Literature, uniquely suited to exploring issues of identity, social justice, oppression, intersectionality, and “the other,” both in its history as a literary genre, and in its subject matter. This course will include the works of writers from the colonial period; from the anti-slavery era; works of The Harlem Renaissance; works from the Black Arts Movement; and works from more contemporary voices.

Concurrent Requirement: Pre-requisite that may be met concurrently: ENG 102 or ENG 103 or permission of the instructor
