ECO 221 - Money and Banking

3 Cr.

A study of monetary and banking principles and practices. Students will learn the concept of money, the measurement of money supply, different financial instruments, and institutions within the framework of our overall economy. The Federal Reserve System and its role in control of money supply, hence, rate of interest are also analyzed. Once the students have a clear understanding of the relationship between money-supply and the interest rate, they will learn how the different economic activities can be changed by changing the interest rate. A historic approach is included to provide a foundation and a perspective. Meets SUNY General Education requirement for Social Sciences (S)(Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.)
