MUS 119 - Music and Political Action

3 Cr.

Music and Political Action is a survey course which chronologically overviews important political, social, military, and religious events and then the music associated with those important events. Students will be introduced to various composers, musical styles, and musical pieces as they directly relate to historically significant circumstances, situations, events, and developments within World and American History. Contexts for these important events will be drawn from and traced to influences found in the annals of Western Civilization. This is a web-based course; while previous musical experience is helpful, it is not required. Recommended for the music major and for the non-music major with previous music experience. Meets SUNY General Education requirement for The Arts (AR) Meets SUNY General Education requirement for Western Civilization (WC)(Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.)

Pre-Requisites: AAC 042, ENG 099, or waiver through testing.
