The Career
This one-year program is designed to offer short-term, entry-level training to those individuals seeking employment in today’s technology-based office.
The NCCC Approach
This certificate program allows the student to choose both a variety of computer software modules frequently used in an office and electives which allow for flexibility in program content. The combination of computer applications with basic office skills will prepare the graduate for positions which local and regional businesses seek to fill.
Admission
Students admitted in fall, spring and summer.
Because of the sequencing of courses, it may take more than two semesters of full-time study if a student begins this program in a spring or summer semester.
Program Goals and Objectives
- Become employable in entry-level positions
- Transfer all credits into the Administrative Assistant degree program
Student Learning Outcomes
- Keyboard a minimum of 40-net words per minute
- Compose written documents to communicate appropriately in the business office
- Apply proofreading and listening skills for editing and transcribing business correspondence on the personal computer
- Develop in-depth software application skills
- Develop job readiness skills that include preparing a resume and cover letter, completing an application and communicating effectively in a job interview
- Apply classroom skills in a work related setting
- Produce formatted business documents using the personal computer

Note:
*Dependent upon the fulfillment of Academic Foundations requirements.
**An average grade of C or higher in OFT courses is required for placement in BUS 281.
***Advanced placement in keyboarding is determined by a review and evaluation of the student’s high school and/or transfer records by the Office Technology faculty. A placement test may be requested
+To challenge this course, a student must initiate the process with the coordinator of Office Technology no later than the end of the first week of classes. Additional Costs
