This course looks at artists and their creations in a wide variety of human cultures, past and present. We will examine the recruitment of the artists and the purposes which artwork serves in traditional and contemporary societies. Cross cultural differences in aesthetic values, symbolism, and artistic techniques will be examined in detail.
