PHI 180 - Philosophy of Love & Sexuality: Desire, Intimacy & Compassion

This course will explore the nature of love as a unique human phenomenon and in its relationship to sexuality. The exploration will cover love’s various manifestations in terms of the experiences of desire, intimacy and compassion. The course will be structured as an introductory level philosophy course, familiarizing the students with the questions of the nature of being, the problem of knowledge and the role of values in determining our understanding and experience of love. Both the Platonic and Freudian traditions will be utilized to conceptualize and problematize the erotic phenomenon.

Pre-Requisites: ENG 099 and AAC 042 or testing waiver
