PTA 112L - Physical Therapy Foundations Laboratory1 Cr. Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lab
This course provides content and practice that will prepare students for Clinical Orthopedics Lab (PTA131L). Common tests and measures the PTA may perform within selected interventions in the physical therapist’s plan of care are introduced. The course includes a brief introduction to manual muscle testing, goniometry, testing of sensory status and deep tendon reflexes. Basic theories, principles and methods of therapeutic exercise and stretching are covered. Demonstration and practice of the fundamentals are included. Beginning documentation, in SOAP format, will be studied with emphasis on documenting the data collected and therapeutic interventions provided in an orthopedic setting. Additionally, coursework in Clinical Orthopedics (PTA 130) will be supported through study of the physiology of tissue healing and repair, arthritis, connective tissue diseases and associated pharmacology. This is a modular course taking place in the final 7.5 weeks of the semester.
