    A study of basic patient care, nursing techniques, approaches and intervention for non-nursing students. Topics include safe patient care; hygiene and patient comfort, nutritional needs, vital signs, positioning and observation of the patient, special techniques and medical records.

  • SUR 200 - Surgical Technology III

    6 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 2 Lec.


    This course emphasizes the Surgical Technologist’s role to perform and facilitate safe and effective conduct. It is vital to anticipate the surgeon needs, pass instruments, and provide sterile items in an efficient manner. Clinical practice will employ intermediate surgical interventions.

  • SUR 204 - Surgical Technology IV

    6 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 2 Lec.


    This course of the Surgical Technology program possess expertise of theory and mastery of sterile and aseptic technique. The combination of basic sciences, knowledge of surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies facilitates the surgeon’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Clinical practice exposure at the affiliated hospital facility is advanced surgical intervention. Clinical practice exposure is advance surgical intervention.

  • THA 100 - Exploring The Arts

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

    This course is intended to be an introductory, interdisciplinary exposure to the visual, verbal, and performing arts. The basic elements of many art forms will be investigated, as well as concepts each form has in common with the other. Distinctive characteristics of music, painting, sculpture, architecture, theatre, dance and photography will serve as focal points. The course is also available as ART 100 and MUS 100.
    General Education: Meets SUNY requirement for The Arts (AR) and for Western Civilization (WC). This course appears in more than one category and can be used to satisfy at most two requirements.

    The Theatre Arts Success Seminar is designed to help students acquire essential skills needed for academic success. The topics covered will include, but are not limited to: Orientation to College Life, Theatre Arts Program Requirements, setting short term and long term education and career goals, college survival skills, critical thinking, and the creative process. This course makes extensive use of the Blackboard Course Management System for accessing course materials.

  • THA 110 - Black Drama and Film

    A survey of African-American Theatre and motion picture companies, personages, and major events which comprise the history of African-American drama and film from the twentieth century to the present. The course will also explore the development of performance techniques and themes that speak to the needs of African-American audiences.

    This course is a survey of styles, methods, techniques, personages, and major events which comprise the history of theatre from Antiquity through the Baroque period.

  • THA 134 - Voice and Diction

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

    This course concentrates on the physical production of vocal sounds. It is designed to enable the student to analyze their vocal production and develop a plan for improvement. Topics to be covered include: the physical process of voice production; vocal health issues; vocal characteristics of pitch, rate, volume, and quality; articulation; pronunciation; International Phonetic Alphabet, dialects, and accents. This course is designed to develop vocal abilities for career and everyday communications. Also available as SPE 106.

  • THA 141 - Introduction to Stage Crafts

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 1 Lec., 4 Lab.

    This course will give the student the tools and knowledge to identify and create theatrical properties. Topics covered will include: identifying the different types of stage props, safety and the tools of the trade, creating props with various materials and being able to properly budget for an event or show.

  • THA 161 - Fundamentals of Theatrical Costuming

    This course is designed to give the student the ability to function successfully as a member of the wardrobe department on a typical theatrical production. Topics covered will include costume repair maintenance, the practice of theatrical dressing, budgeting and strike procedures.

  • THA 181 - Fundamentals of Theatrical Drafting

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 1 Lec., 4 Lab.

    This course will give the student the tools and knowledge to read, understand and create theatrical draftings. Topics covered will include tools, standards, basic techniques, orthographic projection, specialized techniques, computer drafting, design and shop drawing overview, and the portfolio project. This course will adhere to the USITT scenic design and technical production graphic standard as well as the USITT-recommended practice for theatrical lighting design graphics.

  • THA 200 - Theatre Arts Capstone Course

    2 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 2 Lec.

    This course will be the culmination of the student’s experience in the Theatre Arts program. Students will use this course to assemble a repertoire and/or portfolio of the work they have produced in their courses. Faculty will provide students with guidance in methods of presentation and organization of the repertoire and/or portfolio. Students will be expected to develop both a print and electronic resume for inclusion in their portfolio.

  • THA 208 - Script Analysis

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

    A lecture, discussion, presentation course designed to enhance the student’s ability to read, analyze and interpret dramatic literature for the purpose of theatrical production. Students interested in acting, design, stage management and direction will develop their understanding of how dramatic literature can inform the creative decision-making in all areas of production. Works in a variety of theatrical genre and styles will provide the student with a broad base for analysis.

  • THA 211 - Acting for Animation

    Contact Hours Per Week: 2 Lec., 2 Lab

    This course will include study of the skills and sensibilities associated with communication through speech, the physical appearance and structure of the vocal articulators, the implementation of the Laban effort actions and their relationship to the development of a character and the use of improvisation as a tool for creating and evaluating narrative structure. Practical experience is provided through participation in laboratory experiences and final performance projects. Open to non-majors.

  • WBV 101 - Viticulture and Winemaking

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 2 Lec., 3 Lab

    This course will concern itself with the process of viticulture (grape growing) and the process of wine making. Issues such as climate, altitude, sunlight, and soil will be studied. The wine making process will be taught from harvest to fermentation, through aging and bottling.

  • WBV 102 - Distilled Spirits

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

    An in-depth look at distilled spirits other than wine. Brewed beverages, brandy, liqueurs, distilled spirits, low and non-alcoholic beverages will be studied. An understanding of the products and methods used to produce such items will be detailed. Topics such as merchandising, marketing, purchasing, storage, and cost control will be covered from management perspective.

  • WBV 103 - Coffees of the World

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

    An extensive study of coffees and teas from around the world. The historical and cultural prospective will be discussed. Characteristics specific to each region will be studied and identified for their unique traits. Production of coffee and tea from the field to the table will be highlighted.

  • WBV 104 - Winery Operations

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 2 Lec., 3 Lab

    This course will study winery operations from a management perspective. Starting with grapes and growing to harvest and bottling. Product sales and marketing will be discussed through the benefits of tours, tasting, and retail sales. Laws and regulations pertaining to New York as well as other wine growing regions within the United States will be covered.

  • WBV 105 - Sensory Evaluations

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

    This course provides for an overview of the sensory process applied to beverage evaluation. Evaluation will be based on visual olfactory and taste examination. The student will be able to identify the primary taste characteristics: sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. Beverage sensory evaluation will cover coffee, tea, beer, wine, and distilled spirits.

  • WBV 106 - New and Old World Wines

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

    This course will concern itself with the differences between old world and new world wines. Old world wines will consist of Eastern and Western Europe, as well as The Mediterranean. New world wines will cover North America, South America, Africa, New Zealand and Australia. The production methods of each region will be delivered.

  • WBV 107 - Wine Chemistry

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 2 Lec., 3 Lab

    Wine making is an applied science. In this course students will learn both the detailed chemical and biochemical reactions involved in wine, as well as the various treatments and chemical analysis techniques required for successful wine making. This course‚  also introduces the principle chemical and microbiological factors and analyses that influence quality wine production. Developed with specific winemaking stages in mind, the course combines theory with applied analytical methods so that the student can understand how and when to apply specific analyses as part of an integrated program of winery quality control. Microbial control from grape harvest to bottling of wine is explored and emphasis is given to competency in the theory and evaluation of an array of analyses used in quality control.

  • WBV 108 - Wine Regulations

    3 Cr.

    This course will provide an in-depth look at the governmental regulatory bodies of each wine producing nation and region. The legal aspect of operating a winery along with tax requirements will also be studied.

  • WBV 109 - Food and Wine Pairings

    3 Cr.
    Contact Hours Per Week: 2 Lec., 3 Lab

    This course will be theoretical in nature for 51% of its content and field studied for 49%. Lecture content will include the use of audio-visual aids and guest speakers. Field content will include food and wine pairings at area restaurant and wineries.
