Intro to Electricity

This course prepares students to obtain the skills necessary to enter local electrician apprenticeship programs and entry into the electrical trades overall.  Students will be introduced to:  Safety and Health Awareness (safeguarding both worker and the public), OSHA/Safety Awareness including National Fire Protection Association 70e, Fall-Protection, Confined Space, OSHA 10 Hour Construction Standards, Asbestos Awareness, First Aid/CPR, Personal Protective Equipment, Right-to-Know/Material Safety Data Sheets, Blueprint Reading and Sketching, Trade Math, Beginner Electrical Theory and Trade Science.

Emergency medical professionals are trained to recognize, assess, and manage emergencies of acutely ill or severely injured patients. Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) Original

This course presents the National EMS Education Standards for the AEMT and is targeted towards two distinct EMS providers: Current NYS DOH EMTs who wish to acquire new and/or additional advance life support skills.  ALS skills include intravenous (IV) therapy; advance airway management, emergent medications, routes of administration, and advance patient assessment techniques.  An American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR certification is also included in this course.  All candidates must possess a NYS DOH (Basic) EMT card that has not or will not expire by the NYS DOH state certification exam at the end of the course.  In addition to the required classroom hours, the student must complete a required clinical experience in a hospital setting and internship with an ALS ambulance.

Current NYS DOH AEMT-Intermediates who wish to go through the transition process to the new AEMT National Education Standards and certify as an AEMT.  There is a challenge/evaluation exam offered to allow classroom credit for previous AEMT-Intermediate knowledge.  All candidates for the challenge/evaluation exam must have a current NYS DOH AEMT-Intermediate certificate that does not expire before the state certification exam.  If the student’s certificate has or will expire, or if the student does not take the challenge/evaluation exam, they will be required to attend all sessions.  Due to the transition to the new standards there will be several mandatory sessions. No more NYS DOH AEMT-Intermediate refresher courses will be offered.

Advanced EMT Paramedic Refresher
Spring and Fall Semesters- 128 Hours

This course is based on the NYS DOH EMS Paramedic Refresher curriculum.  To retain NYS DOH EMS certification, all EMS personnel must refresh their certification every three years.  Students must have NYS DOH-Paramedic certification, expired or not.  Candidates who wish to challenge are required to attend the challenge evaluation.  An American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR certification is also included in this course.  The balance of the sessions will be scheduled with the course coordinator. This course is offered in the Fall and Spring semesters.

This course is the first of a series that aims to prepare you for a role as an entry-level IT Support  Specialist.  In this course, you’ll be introduced to the world of Information Technology or IT.  You’ll learn about the different facets of Information Technology, like computer hardware, the Internet, computer software, troubleshooting, and customer service. This course covers a wide variety of topics in IT that are designed to give you an overview of what’s to come in this certificate program.

This course will transition you from working on a single computer to an entire fleet.  Systems administration is the field of IT that’s responsible for maintaining reliable computers systems in a multi-user environment.  In this course, you’ll learn about the infrastructure services that keep all organizations, big and small, up and running.  We’ll deep dive on cloud so that you’ll understand everything from typical cloud infrastructure setups to how to manage cloud resources.  You’ll also learn how to manage and configure servers and how to use industry tools to manage computers, user information, and user productivity.  Finally, you’ll learn how to recover your organization’s IT infrastructure in the event of a disaster.

This course covers a wide variety of IT security concepts, tools, and best practices.  It introduces threats and attacks and the many ways they can show up.  We’ll give you some background of encryption algorithms and how they’re used to safeguard data.  Then, we’ll dive into the three as of information security: authentication, authorization, and accounting.  We’ll also cover network security solutions, ranging from firewalls to Wi-Fi encryption options.  The course is rounded out by putting all these elements together into a multi-layered, in-depth security architecture, followed by recommendations on how to integrate a culture of security into your organization or team.

Intro to Hospitality Management

Students enrolled will obtain skills needed to learn all aspects of hospitality including hotels, casinos, restaurants, etc.  Students will be introduced to: Introduction to Hospitality, Property Management Systems, Guest Service (Customer Service), Food and Beverage, Communication, TIPS and Serve Safe Training.

Medical Billing Complete

Start a new career as a medical billing specialist!  Doctor offices, hospitals, HMOs, and clinics need the service of skilled billing specialists able to do the important job of medical billing.  This is an evening program designed for those who have general office skills and are seeking a specialization.  It focuses on the rules and regulations of the insurance industry, medical terminology, medical coding principles and Medent, a medical accounting software package.  Successful completion of this program will provide graduates with the opportunity to obtain employment in diverse medical office environments, and qualifies them to take the Certified Medical Billing Specialist review and exam.  Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and keyboarding skills of 25 words a minute.  Students can also opt for individual courses.  Includes the following parts:  Medical Terminology, Understanding Health Insurance, Microsoft Office and Medent. 

Medical Terminology

Student Learning Objectives:

  1. Developed an understanding of basic word-building skills.  Know the 4 basic word parts, namely word root, combining forms, prefixes and suffixes.  Will be able to identify these word parts in a medical term and provide their meanings.  Build a beginner’s level medical vocabulary and knowledge on how to apply this.
  2. Developed an awareness and understanding of medical terminology in order to adequately communicate in the allied health industry.


  • An in-class test will be given at the end of each chapter.
  • If student is absent for a test, then a makeup will be given the next time the student is present for class. Grade will be 0, if the makeup test is not completed at this time.
  • Homework will be assigned at the end of each class.  This will be due the next time the class meets.
  • Late homework will be accepted one class past the due date and will have 10 points deducted from the grade.  After this time frame, homework will not be accepted and grade will be 0.

Students enrolled in this class will be given the opportunity to learn the concepts necessary to become a Pharmacy Technician.  They will discover and develop foundation skills that are essential to work in a pharmacy.  This program will prepare you for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam $129.00 (PTCB) www.ptcb.org.  This license is currently a requirement to work in 24 states, and is recognized in all 50 states as the standard providing a higher wage and access to a wider array of careers in those states.

Expectations for student performance: Students are expected to meet all of the course goals and be able to demonstrate their understanding of the underlying concepts.

Introduction to Pharmacy & Healthcare Systems
Provides a study of and introduction to pharmacy and its role in providing patient care services.  This course was also designed to provide an increased understanding of the pharmacy and its role in the Healthcare System.  This course will also provide an understanding of patient confidentiality, patient rights and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).

Customer Service
This course is designed to prepare the student for their role as a customer service provider to patients, caregivers and other healthcare professionals in the pharmacy setting.  The areas of focus for the course will include the following:  Interpersonal relations, Communications (Diversity of Communications and Empathetic Communications) and Ethics.

Medical Terminology
This course is designed to provide a basic knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and medical abbreviations and symbols for students entering the health fields. The course will cover word analysis of the terminology, spelling and pronunciation of common medical terms.

Pharmacy Technician Calculations​
This course includes a review of basic mathematics focusing on its application to common pharmaceutical calculations.

Applied Pharmacy Practice​
This course provides a study of the principles used in manipulation of data and materials in the preparing and dispensing of drugs which includes the following concepts:  Records management, inventory control, pharmaceutical supplies, medication labeling, medication packaging and storage, controlled substances and adjudication and billing.

Pharmacy Technician Certification Review​
This course provides an overview of all primary topics taught within the program and the necessary skills needed in order to successfully pass either Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam.

Sterile Processing Technician

Many healthcare workers are considered essential, but few are as fundamentally important as Sterile Processing Technicians.  Without them, hospitals would not be able to function. Patients would not receive necessary surgeries; many more people would lose their lives from preventable infection or untreated medical conditions.  Their work impacts nearly every department within modern hospitals and surgical centers.  Sterile Processing Technicians clean and sanitize used surgical instruments and other medical supplies so that they can be safely redistributed and reused on additional patients.  This short-term vocational program will prepare participants for extensive job opportunities in hospitals and surgical centers.  If you are interested in entering this fulfilling career field, and making a critical difference in patients’ lives, contact us about this program. *Flu shot is MANDATORY. Supply Chain Management
Hours: 150
Cost: $2,600

Students will learn the management of systems for the flow of goods and services involving the movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods from point of origin to point of consumption.  They will gain understanding Supply Chain trends, theories, and practice, and use and apply computer-based supply tools and software.  Student will lean critical management skills including teambuilding, effective communication, and conflict resolution.  Interview with local unions & businesses. Students will receive the OSHA 10 certification.

At the end of the SCM course students will be able to:

  • Apply OSHA 10-hour General Industry regulations
  • Understand business concepts to start their own business
  • Utilize management leadership skills and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Provide knowledge and support to an Enterprise Resource Planning System
  • Understand fundamentals in Six Sigma, ISO 9001:2015, and 5S Lean Management
  • Perform inventory counts, audits, and assessments
