MUS 133 - American Popular Music

3 Cr.

This course examines music and sound in film; considered within its chronological, thematic, and cultural context. Students are presented with the history of film scoring, relevant musical material and concepts, along with the basic vocabulary used to describe what is seen and heard in film, by focusing on film’s most significant works. It devotes class time explaining the composers of film music and the concepts used for scoring films, along with the evolution of music and its role throughout the history of film. This course requires no prerequisites and is designed for the non-music major. Music majors are encouraged to enroll as the course will fulfill music electives.
