PTA 210 - Biophysical Agents3 Cr. Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.
This course examines the theory and principles of biophysical therapeutic agents and massage. As a precursor to the application of biophysical agents and massage in the laboratory and clinic, this course covers important aspects of physics, and normal and abnormal physiology. Thermoregulation, skin functions and responses, sensory system functions, pain and pain modulation, and circulatory responses are covered. Use of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) to describe a patient or client’s impairments, activity, and participation limitations and concepts of evidence-based practice are discussed. This is a five-week modular course offered the first five weeks of the semester.
