NUR 212X - Nursing IV

10 Cr.
Contact Hours Per Week: 4 Lec.

Nursing IV is a continuation of Nursing III. Emphasis is placed on advanced concepts of medical-surgical nursing and prioritization of patient-centered nursing care in various age groups. Content and clinical experiences focus on individuals with interruptions related to protective mechanisms (cancer), sexuality, nutrition, elimination and higher level needs (behavioral health). Students participate in a variety of acute and community health settings which illustrate the diverse nature of health care and the health care environment. Psychomotor skills are developed and assessed for competency through the use of the college, clinical, and simulation laboratory. The Simulation Lab is used to apply theoretical principles and nursing techniques. Theoretical principles and nursing techniques are correlated throughout the course with subsequent application and evaluation in the clinical laboratory. A leadership/delegation experience provides an opportunity for integration of prior learning, inter-professional collaboration and organization of priority needs in multi-patient assignments. Students are challenged to apply evidence-based principles to planning care and experiences to demonstrate a spirit of inquiry and professional growth.
