SPE 103 - Interpersonal Communication

Since humans are social beings, we engage in interpersonal interactions in a variety of contexts on a daily basis. Our ability to communicate competently through face to face and computer-mediated channels impacts our ability to achieve relational and professional goals. This course explores the basic elements of interpersonal communication and provides students with the foundation for understanding effective dyadic communication skills needed to establish and maintain personal and professional relationships. In this course students will study what interpersonal communication is, examine major theoretical perspectives significant to the field, and learn verbal and nonverbal strategies that will help to improve their interpersonal interactions. Additionally, students will reflect on their own interpersonal communication competence and identify areas of improvement in order to enhance their existing and future relational experiences.
