PHI 165 - Philosophy of Art, Beauty and Creativity

3 Cr.


Aesthetic experience is the subject matter of this course. The life experience of several great artists as well as our own everyday experience will be explored in order to study the meaning and nature of art, beauty, and creativity. Through enquiry into the nature of painting, poetry, film, music, dance, architecture, and other art forms, we will examine the nature of the arts and their significance for us. Readings will cover several of the more important theories of art from Plato to the present. Meets SUNY General Education requirement for Humanities (H) (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.)

Pre-Requisites: AAC 042 and ENG 099 or waiver through testing.
