The Career
Economic crime and financial fraud are the most costly crime problems facing the United States today. The rapid technological advances of the 21st century continue to transform the operations by which public agencies and private companies conduct business transactions. These technological changes have produced unique problems in protecting the assets of governmental agencies and private firms from internal and external threats. The need for professionals that are well educated in the areas of economic crime, financial fraud and computer security remains one of the fastest-growing career fields throughout the world.
The NCCC Approach
Niagara County Community College is offering a 64 credit hour associate in science (AS) degree in Economic Crime Investigation. This program will provide students with a strong background in criminal justice, computer science and financial accounting. It is this unique blend of knowledge and skills that will prepare NCCC graduates for transfer to related bachelor degree programs. This program is specifically designed for transfer to four-year institutions.

Students admitted in September and January.
Program Goals and Objectives
- To provide students the basic knowledge of crime, the criminal justice system, the principles of security and criminal investigations.
- To provide students the knowledge of the fundamental principles of accounting.
- To provide students the necessary knowledge to understand the operation of computer systems and related security issues.
- To assist students in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to investigate and select appropriate career choices.
- To provide appropriate advisement in preparing students and facilitating transfer to related baccalaureate programs.
- To assist students with the successful transfer to four-year related programs.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate economic crime and security issues.
- Demonstrate an understanding and comprehension of the basic principles of accounting.
- Demonstrate an understanding of computers and their basic functioning.
- Understand how the criminal justice system currently operates in the United States.

- A total of at least 64 credit hours with a minimum curriculum grade-point average of 2.0. Academic Foundations courses do not count toward the degree.
