The Career

The Music certificate is designed for those who wish to develop their musicianship and explore an academic program in music. It provides students the opportunity to assess their musical skill and explore the college-learning environment. The program offers practical application in music composition, ear-training, sight-singing and basic piano skills and develops understanding of European classical music as well as American popular music. Courses offer hands-on approach to writing, understanding and demonstrating concepts in music and the experience of college-level academic course work.

The NCCC Approach

The Music certificate offers a seamless transfer into the NCCC two-year Associate in Science Music degree. Both the certificate and degree programs require two semesters of written theory, aural and keyboard skills and music history. The certificate also fulfills three of 10 areas of general education: the Arts, 1/2 of the Basic Communication – ENG 101, Humanities – MUS 117, and possibly a fourth through advisement. The Associate in Science degree program at NCCC focuses on performance and preparation for audition into a baccalaureate program in music. For more information about this program call the Music Department at 716-614-5965 or the NCCC Admissions Office at 716-614-6200.
