HUS 106 - Poverty, Welfare & Policy

This course provides a foundational overview of social policy within the Human Services field. It examines the historical development of social welfare, the role of government and other institutions in addressing social issues, and the philosophical and ethical principles that inform policy decisions. Students will explore the needs of diverse populations, analyze the impact of social policies on individuals and communities, and discuss strategies for promoting equity and access to services. Emphasis is placed on the role of advocacy in shaping policy and effecting positive social change, preparing students to be informed and proactive professionals in the Human Services sector.
