HUS 245 - Social and Cultural Dimensions of Counseling

This course explores the social, historical, and cultural factors that shape human development, identity, and access to services. Students will examine systemic inequalities, social movements, and the experiences of diverse populations. The course emphasizes cultural competence in counseling skills, including cultural humility, ethical practice, and adapting interventions to meet the needs of clients from diverse backgrounds. Students will engage with case studies, contemporary issues, and reflective exercises to strengthen their understanding of identity-specific dynamics, reduce bias, and advocate for equitable outcomes in professional practice.
