MAS 114 - Professionalism in Massage Therapy2 Cr. Contact Hours Per Week: 2 Lec.
This lecture course provides an overview of professionalism in massage therapy. Topics include legal practice standards, professional and ethical behavior, the role of the LMT as part of the health care team, and operating a small business. Techniques for effective interaction between the licensed massage therapist and all stakeholders will be emphasized. Students will be instructed in HIPAA, the Patient Bill of Rights, and the rights, dignity, and individuality of the patients they encounter, with consideration for others’ differences, values, preferences, and expressed needs. Recognizing and responding to signs of abuse and/or neglect in clients will be discussed. The role and importance of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) will be examined. Note: This is not a hands-on course. Restricted to MAS students.
