The Career

A career in digital marketing involves promoting products and services online through various channels like SEO, social media, content creation, and paid advertising. Common roles include Social Media Manager, SEO Specialist, Content Marketing Manager, Digital Marketing Analyst, Content Creator, and UX Designer. Given all the possibilities in digital marketing, it’s important to keep your skills current to meet today’s business demands. Earning a digital marketing certificate can be a great way to develop and strengthen your subject knowledge in this expansive area while building key skills.   

The SUNY Niagara Approach

The certificate program is an intensive 30-credit hour program that concentrates on the acquisition of skills used in digital marketing.  This program is ideal for someone who has already earned a degree or is working in a related field and would like to update his or her skills.

Program Mission Statement

Digital marketing is a broad term that refers to the marketing that companies do online. As the prevalence of digital media continues to grow, content is increasingly in need of effective marketing techniques and professionals who understand both the technical and creative elements of digital marketing. The program will help students enter the profession of digital marketing by exposing them to a dynamic mix of art, business, communication, and digital media courses. The course selection addresses industry needs by combining skill sets relevant to small and large businesses with the creative skills demanded by clients.

Program Goals and Objectives

  • To prepare students for entry-level positions in digital marketing-related fields

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of the program, graduates will:

  • Demonstrate intermediate skill in the creation and construction of images using digital applications and digital cameras.
  • Exhibit the ability to create messaging for a range of media using both written and visual communications.
  • Apply traditional and emerging concepts of marketing and consumer behavior to the demands of a digital environment
  • Demonstrate the technical skills necessary to work with web-based applications, including social media and digital
  • Develop and assess a digital marketing strategy using appropriate media metrics and analytics

Facilities

Digital marketing students have access to two state-of-the-art digital media computer classrooms. In addition, students have access to a fully digital, high-definition studio with green screen capabilities and digital audio recording booth and video production/editing facilities.

Software

 The following software programs are used in the Digital Marketing program:

  • Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Premiere Pro FireFly, Acrobat, Audition, Animate, Illustrator, InDesign and Behance
  • Microsoft Office 365
  • Web 2.0 tools such as WordPress, Wix, Animoto, Jing, Pinterest, Twitter (now X), Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook, blogs and wikis

Program Requirements (DGMK)


  1. A total of at least 30-credit hours with a minimum curriculum grade-point average of 2.0. Academic Foundations courses do not count toward the certificate.
  2. Digital Media: A minimum of 12-credit hours to include:
