CRJ 104 - Introduction to Policing

Contact Hours Per Week: 3 Lec.

This course examines the historical evolution, roles, and legal foundations of law enforcement. The structure of police agencies, personnel, and administration will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on the functions, responsibilities, and public accountability of law enforcement within American Society; well as challenges faced by contemporary law enforcement. Police discretion, recent research, different types of policing strategies and misconduct will also be explored.
