This course is designed to acquaint students with the skills necessary to work as a helping professional. Theoretical schools of thought on counseling issues will be examined. Emphasis will be placed on developing a therapeutic relationship with clients, improving communication skills, and understanding ethical practices. Critical thinking in the diagnostic process will be emphasized. In addition to skills of goal setting, group work and documentation will be addressed.
