Advanced Placement
The Fine Arts Department at SUNY Niagara recognizes advanced placement (AP) credits. To earn AP credits upon matriculation in the Fine Arts curriculum, the student must submit a portfolio for review by the Fine Arts Department to determine the proper application for the AP credits. The student must contact the Fine Arts program coordinator during the first two weeks of classes to schedule an appointment for portfolio review. After review of the portfolio, AP credits could be applied to an art elective. Students should obtain guidelines for portfolio submission from the Fine Arts program coordinator.
Admission
Students admitted in fall, spring and summer.
Because of the sequencing of courses, it may take more than four semesters of full-time study if a student begins this program in a spring or summer semester.

Program Goals and Objectives
- To assist students in meeting the required 30 credits from 10 SUNY General Education approved knowledge and skills areas including 3 credit hours in Communications-Oral, Communications-Written, Math, Natural Science, and Diversity.
- To prepare students for the successful transfer to a four-year baccalaureate program in an art, design or other related field
Program Learning Outcomes
The student will:
- Use current digital applications for the production and appreciation of art
- Evaluate professional and/or career options in the arts
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of the foundational concepts and fundamental principles of creating and appreciating art
- Demonstrate critical problem-solving skills by designing an appropriate solution to a series of studio problems
- Demonstrate research skills
- Demonstrate competent use of a range of studio media and equipment and an understanding of the methods and processes involved in developing a work of art
- Demonstrate knowledge about the history of art in Western Civilization. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the arts in terms of history, critical developments and popular trends
- Demonstrate the ability to critically analyze the arts and apply appropriate terminology
- Produce a transfer portfolio
