The Career

Police officers and law enforcement professionals represent the essential security guarantee of any community. In order to maintain a steady supply of LE professionals to our communities the State of New York has determined that it is important to have local law enforcement training academies that promote the curricular guidelines of the Municipal Police Training Council (MPTC). This program is thus in line with the priorities of the State of New York as established historically through Charter 446 of the Laws of 1959 via the creation of the MPTC and subsequently through the explicit establishment of training standards and required training hours.

The SUNY Niagara Approach

Recognizing that policing is an active and hands-on profession, the cadets at the SUNY Niagara Law Enforcement Academy receive a broad-based education, both theoretical and practical. Courses in the curriculum focus on practical applications and training and not merely on theoretical background. Cadets will be active throughout the entire day and expected to have excellent attendance and attentive performance.

Admission

The essential admission requirements are established in New York Basic Course for Police Officers - September 2016 - Administrator’s Guide, Student Entrance Requirements (p. 6):
